Do I need an account?
No. Rhizome uses a local profile created on your device. This profile is protected by your password and is not a central account hosted by Rhizome.
Where are my messages stored?
Messages, events, known spaces and received files are stored locally in your browser, mainly in IndexedDB. Other concerned members can also keep their own local copy.
What does "decentralized" mean here?
Rhizome tries to connect members directly whenever possible. The server helps members find each other and establish the connection, but it is not designed as a central mailbox storing every conversation.
How do spaces and group conversations work?
Spaces use a shared secret or invitation to join. Rhizome does not provide a public space catalogue. Group conversations live inside a space and reuse the same membership, synchronization and peer transport mechanisms.
Can the server read my messages?
The signaling server does not transport chat messages, files, audio or video. These contents pass between peers over WebRTC once the connection is established.
